Ludwig and Edith Lobe Endowed Scholarship
EST. 1995
Please address your letter to:
Mr. James R. Lobe and Mr. Thomas D. Lobe (sons of Ludwig and Edith Lobe)
This scholarship was established in 1995 through the estate of Ludwig and Edith Lobe. Ludwig Lobe left his native Germany in 1936 and, hearing that Seattle was a good place to settle, made his way to the Pacific Northwest. He came to feel indebted to his adopted home. Jim Lobe, one of the Lobes’ two sons, says the couple felt they “owed something to the U.S., particularly the community of Seattle, for receiving them as refugees.”
Having witnessed the rise of Nazi Germany, Mr. and Mrs. Lobe were deeply committed to community service activities, and they maintained a strong interest in the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Center.
