Dr. William Field Mead, Jr., Ms. Cathleen M. Mead, Ms. Sheila Mead Fall, and Mr. Mark Mead
Dr. William Field Mead had a 32-year medical career in Seattle distinguished by excellence in patient care, scholarship, and community service. He was instrumental in the development of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Washington. A clinical professor emeritus at the UW, Dr. Mead was recognized as the 1983 Family Physician of the Year by the Washington Academy of Family Physicians and the 1986 Clinical Teacher of the Year by the King County Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Mead was also the recipient of the John G. Walsh Founders Award, the highest award accorded by the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Mead and his wife, Connie, always enjoyed a strong commitment to family, to philanthropy, and to UW athletics. In 2003, after Dr. Mead’s death, his children decided to continue their family’s legacy of philanthropy, and created an endowed scholarship fund to benefit promising UW medical students in perpetuity. It is their hope that the scholarship will be directed toward medical students who are interested in pursuing careers in family medicine.
