Dr. Allen Wyler and Ms. Lily Wyler

Allen R. Wyler, M.D. is a Seattle native. Dr. Wyler received both his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in 1966 and his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in 1969 from the University of Washington. In his first year of medical school, he knew he wanted to specialize in neurosurgery and completed his residency at the UW in 1975. Upon completing his residency, Dr. Wyler joined the UW Medicine faculty and later the faculty at the University of Tennessee where he developed an international reputation for pioneering surgical techniques to record brain activity. In 1992 he returned to Seattle and joined Swedish Medical Center where he developed a neuroscience institute. Dr. Wyler also has a long interest in writing medical thrillers. Drawing plots from actual events, he published his first book, Deadly Errors, in 2005. He retired in 2007 to devote full time to writing.

Lily M. Wyler has served as a volunteer at Swedish Medical Center for more than 15 years.

Dr. Wyler said he was fortunate to receive scholarships while at the UW Medical School and has established this endowed scholarship as a way to help support future medical students.
