Rex and Angela Bates
Rex J. Bates spent his entire career in the investment business, first as a partner with the investment advisory firm of Stein Roe and Farnham and then as chief investment officer of State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company. He served on the Board of Directors of State Farm, 20th Century Insurance, Ventana Medical Systems, The Brookings Institution and Illinois Wesleyan University. Mr. Bates has always had in the development of new medical technologies and has helped with the start-up of several related businesses.
Rex and Angela Bates are residents of Tacoma, Washington who, through the Bates Family Foundation, have been involved in the support of education at all levels but especially in secondary school. They currently assist in fundraising efforts at St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire, Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Faribault, Minnesota and Annie Wright School in Tacoma. Additionally, Rex sites on the Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital Foundation Board.
