Ms. Julia Ruvelson
Frances Spitz dropped out of college to work for her father, a physicist and inventor, after the stock market crash of 1929. Through her job, she met her future husband, Laurence Adler, a young man who used to box with her father. Their surviving family members remember them fondly. Frances loved to laugh and was a wonderful storyteller. Larry worked hard to develop a successful grocery store business, yet knew how to enjoy life. Both believed in social justice and supporting their community, and both appreciated the value of a good education. Their granddaughter, former UW Medicine staff member Julia Ruvelson, has dedicated this fund to their memory and to their unwavering support of her pursuit of higher education. βA scholarship fund,β says Ms. Ruvelson, βis a wonderful way to pay tribute to the love, joy and values my grandparents shared with me.β
