Giving Improves
Lives

Yes, I want to protect UW Medicine’s mission and improve lives today!

I want to give:

Lifesaving care, research and
education is at risk — you can help

UW Medicine delivers exceptional care, advances groundbreaking research and trains the next generation of scientists and healthcare leaders — thanks to the powerful combination of donor generosity and federal funding.

But today, this progress faces new challenges.

Federal funding for many of our programs is uncertain. Without it, patients and families across the five-state region we serve — which includes Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho — will feel the impact immediately:

• In Washington, roughly 1 in 5 people — including 800,000 children — rely on Medicaid. Cuts will decrease our ability to provide essential care to members of our community, especially the most vulnerable.

• Clinical trials may be paused or terminated because of federal budget reductions. This not only delays life-changing breakthroughs — it leaves real patients in limbo, unsure if their care will continue.

• Less support for education, training and research today means fewer opportunities for medical students, residents and trainees to gain critical knowledge and fewer applicants to our PhD programs. This will shrink the pipeline of future providers and scientists — and impact healthcare for all of us in the years to come.

As one of the largest medical research institutions in the world — and the only health system in our region with a top-ranked medical school — UW Medicine is unique. Our discoveries lead to better treatments that improve health. Our exceptional care offers hope and healing to people throughout the region. And our education prepares tomorrow’s leaders in healthcare and biomedical research.

Your compassionate support today will help us respond to urgent challenges so we can continue our mission to improve health for everyone.

Tim Dellit

“In recent months, we’ve felt the real impact of federal funding cuts — not as headlines, but in the work we do every day. And yet, what I’ve seen across our system is extraordinary: people showing up for one another with commitment, resilience and care. The strength of UW Medicine has always come from those who care deeply about our mission and continuing to advance our progress.”

— Dr. Tim Dellit, CEO, UW Medicine, Paul G. Ramsey Endowed Dean of the School of Medicine, executive vice president for medical affairs

Trish Kritek

“We are already seeing the impact on our science and our education. For example, support for research on HIV has been terminated. Fewer graduate students have been enrolled. Medical student clinical opportunities are being limited. And this is just the beginning as now we will see the impact of the significant cuts to Medicaid. This is a true and immediate threat to science and healthcare.”

— Trish Kritek, interim chair of the Department of Medicine

Brad Simmons

“Offering access through our community clinics and at Harborview Medical Center are ways UW Medicine provides care to patients. UW Medicine and Harborview serve an extremely diverse patient population in our community, and it’s so important to ensure that every patient receives the best possible care, whether or not they can pay.”

— Brad Simmons, president of UW Medicine Hospitals & Clinics

Brooks Simpson

“Research has to meet a threshold for federal investment. Which is why philanthropy is so important to kickstart the basic science that’s the foundation for these breakthroughs. For the cutting-edge, you need the philanthropy of local folks and organizations.”

— Brooks Simpson, donor and patient family member
