Dr. Angela Chien
I am forever proud to be a Husky. I entered the University of Washington at the age of 16 and received a B.S. in Biochemistry. I was accepted by the University of Washington School of Medicine at the age of 20, graduating with my M.D. in 1995. I was blessed to graduate with very little debt, thanks to the financial support left by my grandparents. My grandparents had both been in the health care profession—my grandfather, Chang-Ping Chien, and my grandmother, Wang-Zu Chien, were general practitioners in Taiwan, my home country. I was introduced to medicine at a young age, predominantly through working with my grandfather in his clinic. My grandmother passed away when I was quite young, but I channel her spirit through my career as an OB/GYN—she spent the last years of her practice focused on obstetrics. I create this scholarship in their honor. Just as their legacy allowed me to pursue my medical education, I hope this scholarship will help those in need as they go on to become equally proud graduates of the University of Washington School of Medicine.
