Angela Páez Scholarship Fund for Minority Students

Angela Páez was an outstanding M.D./Ph.D. student at the University of Washington School of Medicine, known for her commitment to diversity. Tragically, before she was able to complete the program, Angela’s died in an avalanche in Alaska in 1997.
Angela was a high-school dropout who earned a GED at Lake Washington Technical College, then studied at Bellevue Community College and the University of Washington, where she earned her bachelor’s degree and entered the M.D./Ph.D. program. She was an active volunteer, teaching in the Minority Medical Education Program, visiting high schools to talk to students, and serving as president of PALANA, a service organization comprised of Pacific Islander, Latino and Native American students.
The Angela Páez-Paul G. Ramsey, M.D. Endowed Scholarship in Medicine aims to honor Angela’s work on behalf of underrepresented minority groups at the School of Medicine and to continue to bring students of diverse backgrounds to the School.
The Ames Family Foundation was established in 2000 and focuses on helping fund minority student scholarships at higher education institutions in the Pacific Northwest.
