The Donald G. Tembreull Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 1997 to provide assistance to medical students in their third or fourth year of study.

Donald G. Tembreull was born in Seattle in 1923 and aspired early in his life to be a doctor, like his grandfather and uncle before him. After serving as a Navy pilot during World War II, he completed pre-medical studies and applied for acceptance into the 1951 class of the University of Washington School of Medicine. When he was not selected for that class, he became concerned, thinking that if he were to extend his undergraduate education and reapply to medical school the following year, he would cause his wife and growing family hardship by delaying his ability to support them. He chose instead to pursue a business career with the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. It was a decision he would never regret. This scholarship embodies Mr. Tembreull’s desire to assist capable medical students by reducing their financial burdens, thereby making it easier for them to achieve their ambitions. It was his hope that scholarship recipients would share his philosophy of helping others.
