Ms. Julia Ruvelson

Frances Spitz dropped out of college to work for her father, a physicist and inventor, after the stock market crash of 1929. Through her job, she met her future husband, Laurence Adler, a young man who used to box with her father. Their surviving family members remember them fondly. Frances loved to laugh and was a wonderful storyteller. Larry worked hard to develop a successful grocery store business, yet knew how to enjoy life. Both believed in social justice and supporting their community, and both appreciated the value of a good education. Their granddaughter, former UW Medicine staff member Julia Ruvelson, has dedicated this fund to their memory and to their unwavering support of her pursuit of higher education. β€œA scholarship fund,” says Ms. Ruvelson, β€œis a wonderful way to pay tribute to the love, joy and values my grandparents shared with me.”
