The Contributor to the Genevieve Bale Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Genevieve Bale Endowed Scholarship Fund was established through an anonymous gift in 1992. Genevieve Bale graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in history in 1926 and went on to receive her master’s degree from the Columbia University School of Librarianship. Ms. Bale remembered with pleasure her four years at the University of Washington and always regarded Seattle as home, although she spent the last three decades of her life in Los Angeles. She lived modestly and quietly and, because she was an avid reader, was well informed about world events. She had firm opinions and Victorian standards, though she permitted herself one indulgence — her very stylish hats, for which she was recognized. This scholarship was established in honor of her belief in the importance of education.
