Dr. Leslie D. Turner was born in Beirut, Lebanon, to Dr. Edward L. and Katherine Turner on February 4, 1930. Les was a graduate of Roosevelt High, Stanford University in California and the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Wash. Following an internship at King County Hospital, he started his medical career in the Public Health Service assigned to the Mt. Edgecombe Hospital in Alaska. This was followed by a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Colorado in Denver. After his residency, Les returned to Seattle, joining Group Health Cooperative and practicing there, delivering thousands of healthy babies, for the balance of his career.
Les took two sabbaticals, which he used to provide health care for women by practicing aboard the Tole Mour in the South Pacific Islands of the Marianas and by directing a family healthcare program in Guam through FHP.
Les loved traveling, skiing, scuba diving, boating and bird watching. He was a skillful woodworker, finishing off the interior of his sailboat himself. He was an accomplished sailor, skippering his boat to Hawaii and Alaska many times, and he delighted in exploring the beautiful seacoasts of our sheltered inland waterways.
His greatest pride was his family: three sons and three grandchildren. He will be forever missed by his loving family, friends, patients and colleagues.
