Contributors to the Oren Traub Endowed Fellowship
This endowment was established in memory of Oren Traub to support students enrolled in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
Oren earned his M.D./Ph.D. through MSTP in 2001. The Director of the program shared this story:
“Oren would organize review sessions for his fellow students. His sessions were so popular that professors were actually complaining that people had stopped coming to their classes and instead were just attending Oren’s reviews. He had a special knack for explaining extremely complicated subjects in ways that made sense to everyone.”
Upon graduation, Oren joined Pacific Medical Centers at Swedish Hospital, where his professionalism was only surpassed by his vast intelligence and gentile kindness. Oren also dedicated his professional time to medical writing. His editors at McMahon Group described him as the “best medical writer they ever had, no question.”
Oren was a super special person, not just brilliant and funny, but a valued friend and a loving husband whose joie de vivre was apparent during any interaction with him. He was someone who literally lit up the room with personal warmth and exuberance. Oren’s personal interests included travel, fantastic foods, technology, movies, live performances and politics. Oren will be greatly missed.
