Mr. Paul W. Skinner

The Paul Skinner Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 1989. Paul Skinner is the president and CEO of the Skinner Corporation and a former UW regent. A 1970 graduate of the University of the Pacific, Mr. Skinner’s leadership at the UW reflects both his family’s commitment to service and his belief in education. Of his upbringing, Mr. Skinner says, “I grew up in a family where participating in the community was as basic as brushing your teeth.” Education was also an important value. “Every single good thing in our society, whether it’s for old people or young people, today or in the future, comes from attention to education,” he says. His parents and aunts were well-rounded role models, Skinner says, as they placed a value upon “the balance of your life between your family, work, physically taking care of yourself, and reinvesting your energies back into the community.” Skinner asked that his scholarship fund provide financial support to students who need such support, and are interested in working in medically underserved communities.

In fall 2006, Mr. Skinner created a second scholarship fund, which was enhanced by the University’s Students First matching initiative.
