Each year, we honor supporters and volunteers who have made extraordinary contributions to advancing our mission of improving the health of the public.

The Brotman Leadership Award, established in 2008, honors those whose visionary philanthropic leadership makes a significant impact on UW Medicine’s ability to carry out its mission: improving the health of the public.

The Ragen Volunteer Service Award, established in 2008, acknowledges the length and breadth of service — from a volunteer, faculty member or staff member — that advances the mission of UW Medicine.

Linda Dahl and her late husband, Robert (Bob), are being recognized for their support, advocacy and fundraising on behalf of traumatic brain injury research. Named for the late Brooks G. Ragen, the Ragen Award honors volunteers who have made outstanding contributions toward advancing the mission of UW Medicine.

Brotman Leadership Award

Named in honor of the late Jeffrey Brotman, the Brotman Leadership Award recognizes philanthropic leaders who have made a significant impact on UW Medicine’s ability to advance its mission to improve the health of the public.

Presented during the annual Spring Soirée donor recognition event, the award gives UW Medicine an opportunity to thank and honor community leaders whose transformative generosity has advanced high-impact, life-changing biomedical research, led to healthcare expansion or improvements or improved access to high-quality medical education.

About Jeffrey Brotman

Jeffrey Brotman, Costco’s co-founder and a proud University of Washington alum, was a visionary civic leader and philanthropist. Together with his wife, Susan, Jeff made a meaningful difference across our region and nation, advancing educational, medical and cultural causes.

Jeff spent countless hours in volunteer leadership roles at UW Medicine and the University of Washington, serving on the UW Medicine Board, the UW Medicine Strategic Initiatives Committee and the UW Board of Regents. With Susan, he also served as a general chair for the UW’s Be Boundless fundraising campaign.

Jeff and Susan’s contributions were foundational to the creation of UW Medicine’s South Lake Union campus, the renovation of the building that bears their name and the creation of the Brotman Baty Institute for Precision Medicine.

Ragen Volunteer Service Award

Named in honor of the late Brooks G. Ragen, the Ragen Volunteer Service Award recognizes volunteers, faculty or staff who have shown exemplary dedication and service to advancing UW Medicine’s mission.

Presented during the annual Spring Soirée donor recognition event, the award gives UW Medicine an opportunity to thank and honor community leaders who have gone above and beyond to help advance biomedical research, equitable healthcare and medical education that improves the health of our region and beyond.

About Brooks G. Ragen

Brooks Ragen was an extraordinary civic leader and an outstanding volunteer and advocate for UW Medicine for over 25 years. He chaired UW Medicine’s Scholarship and Student Support Committee and the UW Medicine Board of Visitors and was a member of the UW Medical Center Board.

Brooks and his wife, Susie, have served on the UW Medicine Campaign council and supported many causes both at UW Medicine and across the university, such as medical student scholarships, vision research, cancer care, the Burke Museum, Foster School of Business and Friday Harbor Labs.
